Have you ever wanted to get your friends together for a game of hoops and just couldn’t make it happen? It’s frustrating, we know. That’s why Omar Haroun, current Columbia University JD/MBA student, created Sportaneous, a pick-up sports networking App for iPhone and online. On October 12, he shared some of his entrepreneurial wisdom with FPOP members and CUMC students interested in the overlap of business, social networking, health, and…well, fun! Sportaneous is based on a simple idea: people would rather work out with other people than alone. And with several thousand users around New York City, San Diego, and Philadelphia, it’s as easy as creating a profile (linked through Facebook), selecting your exercise preferences, and letting Sportaneous search for a pick-up game near you. Former team-captains – or those who always wanted to be one – can even propose their own pick-up game. Dodgeball anyone?
